Time fly's by when you have fun. When I started with Mercedes Benz back in 68, the majority of the cars still had drum brakes. We were just getting into 4-wheel disc brakes. Antilock Brake System (ABS) meant; just tap and release the brake pedal, Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) meant; take your foot off the gas pedal, and instead of having an Electronic Traction System (ETS) one had to take the foot off the gas pedal AND tap the brake pedal. This was the time when seat belt users were laughed at and titled wannabe race car drivers. Little did they know that this would later evolve into the Supplemental Restrained System (SRS). A system that locks up the seat belts and shoots airbags out of the steering wheel, dashboard, and doors. That would have been a rather scary thought at the time. Now, 40 years later, Mercedes Benz and BMW vehicles are equipped with all kinds of computer controlled safety and convenience systems. Accessing those systems requires sophisticated equipment in highly advanced workshops. Qualified independent workshops are spread thinner every year. Special Car Services Inc. is in it for the long run. Reflecting on the early years, that was the most impressive statement I had ever heard. It stuck with me mainly because I did not only get the look, but the eyebrow as well. Motivated by that, I finished my formal education with a double Master in 1980. I firmly believe that people should know who they are dealing with because it makes the first phone call so much easier. You wont find anything fancy in my shop, except the equipment, that is state of the art. Other than that, I own the building and everything in it. This gives me a certain freedom when it comes to spending time with my clients and explaining the proper approach to a repair or maintenance issue. |
